Methodology

1. Scope and coverage

The EVCOUNT Research database tracks electric vehicle (EV) sales by month, country, manufacturer (OEM), and model variant. It also provides battery installation estimates in MWh by supplier, chemistry, and form factor.

Coverage spans 80+ countries, 600+ OEMs, and 19,000+ vehicle variants. The monthly series starts in January 2017 and is updated every month.

2. Definitions

EV means BEV plus PHEV. Hybrid vehicles (HEV) and fuel cell vehicles (FCEV) are excluded from EV totals; where they are shown separately, this is noted.

Units represent new vehicle sales or registrations volume, depending on how each market reports.

Battery energy (MWh) is an estimate based on pack capacity multiplied by units.

3. Data process

Figures are compiled independently from multiple sources and normalized into a single internal database. Every figure shown in the service is served from that one database, which is the single source of truth.

No external statistics are quoted or mixed into the data.

4. Quality assurance

Every monthly load runs automated integrity checks, including row-count invariants, dimension consistency, and display-name mapping drift.

Each monthly update reloads the full history, so revisions stay consistent retroactively across the entire series.

5. Revisions and limitations

Figures may be revised as registrations data finalizes, and some markets report with delay.

Model-level splits for some OEMs are estimated.
